Solvang

Did you know there’s an 18th century Danish villiage just outside of Santa Barbara? No joke. It’s called Solvang, and it’s got windmills, smörgåsbords, and a Hans Christian Andersen museum. My friend Mya alerted me to the existence of this magical place just days ago. She could only vaguely recall its beauty, grasping at fleeting images from a childhood vacation with her grandparents. So to uncover the full extent of its glory, we went on a road trip to the mythical land of Solvang. And we came back with our bellies full of æbleskiver and a memory card full of creepy porcelain figurines. Continue on to catch a glimpse of Solvang!

i just noticed, that dachshund you thought was a drag queen, is really a bride (check out the bouquet it’s holding with its tail)

it’s a drag bride…i especially like the factoid about pinky & the brain. i’ve been through there a couple times, but never stayed long enough to soak much in.

I just went there a few months ago. It’s amazing, it’s a great roadtrip stop if you are traveling from north to southern California.
what camera and lenses are used on these pics?

I shoot on a Nikon D50 and most of the pictures in this post were shot on a 50mm 1:1.8D fixed lens.

I too only have these strange little images and feelings about the place from childhood memory. I used to go there all the time, but haven’t been in probably ten years at least. Strange to see photographs of it. I take it the pastries are as rich as ever?

Maybe it’s me cause I haven’t lived in Danmark in years, but Coo Coo clocks are German and not Danish. Nice pic of HRH Margrethe.
