Every Macha Suzuki piece is like a relay station for celestial energy: light flows through them, vibrant strands of color ooze out of them, ever-expanding spirals of butterflies are drawn to their signal. Each dazzling effect seems to hint at the presence of an even greater and far more obscure power, the hidden source of these cosmic vibrations. Something is struggling to articulate itself on this mortal plane, but what?

There is no apparent overarching theme here. Expressions of joy shine out their good tidings while half-human, half-nether-ducks flutter gleefully over a field of flowers. A bejeweled skull stares out from the center of the “Fountain of Life,” providing no answers. This ecstatic power which Suzuki’s work seems to have tapped into transcends all extant systems of logic. Perhaps what we are witnessing here, then, is the formation of a new aesthetic vocabulary, our first baby steps towards a dialogue with something terrifyingly divine.
