Future Shipwreck began in 2007 as a space to pay tribute to the artwork I loved, write about my experiences navigating the weird waters of entry-level jobs in L.A.’s entertainment industry, and share my own work in video and photography. Ever since breaking ground on my Simpsons fan page in the 4th grade (Geocities for life), I’ve been a fan of cyber-communing via shared cultural experience. I relish the thrill of discovering rad art, and Future Shipwreck is about sharing that thrill.

Making Future Shipwreck granted me the privilege of interviewing the artists inspire me, and soon I found myself writing words and taking pictures for places like The Advocate, Mean, and Giant Robot. Throughout 2009, I had the pleasure of writing for Spike Jonze’s art blog, We Love You So.

In 2010, I invited some of my favorite people to contribute to Future Shipwreck: Indiana-based cultural theorist and RuPaul philosopher Dan Rosplock, film crtic and brilliant memoirist, Dave White, and the co-curator of one of my favorite L.A. galleries, Synchronicity Space, Katie Vonderheide. I also began making short documentaries about artists who’d been featured on the site, and teamed up with New American Paintings to grant intimate glimpses into the creative lives of artists and gallerists in L.A.

While sadly, I don’t get many chances to post on FS these days, I’m always updating the Future Shipwreck tumblr with beautiful, funny, thought-provoking images I find throughout the day. I love hearing from strangers, and making new friends! E-mail me at grahamk@gmail.com and feel free to share any artwork that makes you happy!
